JoAnna McTevia is a licensed clinical social worker and addiction counselor. She first integrated dogs into her therapeutic practice in 2013, focusing on helping veterans with posttraumatic stress.

Welcome to my training home page! I’m JoAnna McTevia, a certified professional dog trainer and licensed therapist dedicated to building strong training relationships based on understanding, communication, and trust.

My journey into dog training began through my clinical work, where I saw firsthand the healing power of the human–canine bond. Over time, that respect turned into a calling. I pursued multiple certifications, including service dog and advanced behavior programs, so I could support both ends of the leash –human and canine – with skill, compassion, and integrity.

I take a whole-dog, whole-human approach to every client I meet. That means we look beyond surface behaviors and dive into the “why,” building confidence and clarity for you and your dog as a team. I understand how life’s stress, burnout, or behavior frustrations can shape our interactions – and I incorporate structure and compassion in the process.

Whether you’re training a service dog, raising a confident puppy, or addressing issues related to reactivity or anxiety, I’m here to support you without judgment and with deep respect. You don’t need to have everything figured out; you just need a guide who recognizes the potential in your partnership.
